Ontario Focus

Ontario's logistics and warehouse boom

Ontario, California has one of the highest concentrations of newly-built distribution and warehouse space in the country. Amazon, Target, FedEx, Home Depot, and dozens of 3PLs run massive slab-on-grade and tilt-up facilities here. Every one of them has post-tension slabs designed for forklift and rack loads, dense in-slab conduit runs, trench drains, and rack-anchor patterns that need field verification before drilling.

When these buildings need TIs, dock reworks, MEP rerouting, or new equipment anchoring, GPR scanning is the only responsible way to plan the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

GPR Scanning FAQs — Ontario

What is GPR concrete scanning? +

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a non-destructive scanning method that uses high-frequency radio waves to image the inside of a concrete slab, wall, or column before it's cut, cored, or drilled. Results are immediate and marked directly on the surface.

Do I need to scan before coring in Ontario? +

On any commercial or industrial slab built after roughly 1975, yes. Post-tension construction, embedded conduit, and buried utilities are common enough in Ontario that coring blind is a liability risk most GCs and owners no longer accept.

How deep can GPR see into concrete? +

Reliable imaging depth is typically up to about 12 inches, and can go deeper depending on slab thickness, moisture content, aggregate density, and antenna frequency. Every slab is different — we assess conditions on-site and adjust equipment for the clearest scan possible before any cutting or coring begins.

GPR scanning vs concrete X-ray — what's the difference? +

Concrete X-ray requires access to both sides of the slab and an evacuation radius. GPR is one-sided, non-radioactive, and requires no evacuation — making it faster, safer, and more practical on active job sites.

How much does GPR scanning cost in Ontario? +

Scanning is quoted per job. Scan area, slab type, access, how much of the floor has to be covered, and whether the work runs during the day or at night all change the number. Call (909) 519-6754 for a project-specific quote.

Can you scan post-tension slabs? +

Yes — post-tension cable location is one of the most common and highest-stakes scans we perform. Cutting a PT cable is a serious structural event, which is why we recommend locating them before any cut begins.

What do I get after the scan? +

The findings are marked directly on the slab in paint or crayon, and we send the GC a photo of the marked slab the same day. We do not issue a written scan report.

How quickly can you get to a Ontario site? +

4-hour typical response window from our Rancho Cucamonga shop. Same-day and emergency response available. Call (909) 519-6754.

Is Earthworks certified for public works and prevailing wage jobs? +

Yes. Earthworks holds California DVBE certification (#2023620), federal SDVOSB certification, CSLB General Engineering license #1031142, CA DIR registration #2000019179, and BBB Accreditation. We are prevailing wage compliant on all public works projects.
